Online Backups – Our Ultimate Savior!

Even novices that use computers know that they should secure backups often enough, in order to safe guard their valuable information in the computer. Experts in the IT industry harp on the value of backing up your data and methods available for doing so, in every IT tradeshow and tech brief. Yet, majority of computer users never backup their data, only to find all their data being lost, one fine day.

Backing up your data in a secondary hard drive or an optical disk is an old school method used by the first few generations of the computer industry. Due to the limitations such as accessibility to data and expenses of hardware, and hassle, individuals as well as the organizations required better backing up techniques and tools nowadays. As the Internet grew faster than bamboos tree in your backyard, backing up your data in a remote location through the Internet became an ideal solution to overcome the issue of finding your data being lost all of a sudden. This method of backing up data offered a few advantages over the conventional methods. Firstly, it gave accessibility to data retrieval from anywhere in the world. Secondly, it helped in disaster recovery.
Since the backup server was hosted in some other location than where the original data resided, no single disaster was likely to destroy your data at any given time, giving you an edge over the situation.

When online backups were first introduced, the prices were quite unappealing to individuals and small organizations. However, in time to come, since prices of hardware and bandwidth were rapidly reduced, online backup service providers were able to offer affordable packages that suited both individuals and large organization. As a result, by now we all have the ability to use online backup services for our advantage, although we usually wait for the disaster to unfold first!
